Echo Park Rising Returns to Celebrate One of L.A.'s Coolest Neighborhoods
Two days of music, comedy, art, food, and community bring the unmistakable Echo Park spirit to life this month.
Echo Park has always been one of Los Angeles’ coolest—and often most underrated—neighborhoods. While other parts of the city have transformed over the decades, Echo Park has managed to hold onto something special: a genuine local spirit, a creative energy and that unmistakable bohemian charm that has attracted artists, musicians, filmmakers and dreamers for generations.
For anyone who wants to experience the real Echo Park vibe, there are two options: watch the classic 1989 film Echo Park, starring Susan Dey and Tom Hulce, which offers a fascinating snapshot of the neighborhood during another era, or head to the annual Echo Park Rising on August 29 and 30 and experience that energy firsthand.
Named “Best Music Festival” by LA Weekly, Echo Park Rising began as a free, grassroots street fair created by the Echo Park community as a way to celebrate the neighborhood’s creative residents, independent businesses and local artists. What started as an impromptu gathering has grown into one of Los Angeles’ most unique annual festivals while staying true to its original mission: showcasing the music, art, and entrepreneurial spirit that make Echo Park such a special place.
Presented by the Echo Park Chamber of Commerce, Echo Park Rising continues to channel the neighborhood’s unmistakable energy through a weekend filled with live music, independent art, local businesses, comedy, food, and plenty of opportunities to discover something new.
The two-day festival transforms Echo Park into a celebration of creativity, featuring performances from some of the area’s most exciting local bands, comedians and entertainers, along with food vendors, neighborhood artisans, artists, and other attractions that highlight the people who make the community thrive.
But beyond the entertainment, one of the biggest reasons to experience Echo Park Rising is something you won’t find listed on the official schedule: the view.
